We're excited to announce that pre-orders for Torchlight 2 are available today! As an added bonus to the purchase, anybody who pre-orders Torchlight 2 will receive access to Dungeon and Dragons Neverwinter when it enters closed beta later this year. Torchlight players will be among the first to receive a closed beta key to enter the realm of one of the year's most anticipated MMOs.

All players need to do is pre-order their copy of Torchlight 2 from Perfect World Entertainment here:

http://torchlight2.perfectworld.com/

Players can expect to receive an email containing their beta code around the time Neverwinter closed beta kicks off.

(*Beta key holders are not guaranteed immediate first access to Neverwinter closed beta but will be granted entrance dependent on testing needs*)

game is now available

first impressions
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game ... tml/page/1
The Bottom Line (for today!)
The bottom line is that Torchlight 2 is a LOT of fun, more fun than I've had in a game in a long while. Unlike Diablo 3, which is a much darker, more story-driven game, Torchlight 2 is more light-hearted with some laugh-out-loud moments and exhilarating game play. The story isn't any slouch either.

For folks who truly love a great action-RPG experience, Torchlight 2 is the way to go. Additionally, if you were disappointed by Diablo 3 this year, Torchlight 2 may just reaffirm your love of the ARPG genre. And, really? You cannot beat the price. For $20 USD, it's the game to buy this year. You won't be sorry.

We are the Runic Games dev team, creators of Torchlight II. Ask us anything!
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1 ... eators_of/
Will you go into some detail on how magic find (MF) works in a multiplayer game? Is the drop based on the MF of whichever player gets the last hit or opens the chest? Is it based on your own MF regardless of who gets the last hit? If your pet has any MF how does this interact with your MF in regards to last hits, etc.?

Are any legendaries restricted to a certain class?

What were some classes/pets that were discussed but that did not make it into the game?

Why does heal bot despawn whenever the player zones? Is this intentinal? Does it effect other summons?

If your pet or summon gets a last hit on a mob does this count towards unlocking an augment or does the player have to get the last hit?

Magicfind is not shared - each player applies magicfind to drops that roll for them. No kill credit is required - but you must be in the drop range for shared loot (several screens)
There are no current class-restricted legendaries.
Some robot pets didn't quite make it in, and there were numerous variations of the classes. At one point the Berserker was supposed to also use Dragon and Raven magic.
The heal bot despawns during zoning because there's no other way to actually despawn him!
Currently the player must deliver the blow to power an augment. We have talked about altering this, but it would be post-release if we do

recent interview

So Runic, What’s Next After Torchlight II?
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09 ... hlight-ii/
“[An entirely new, non-Torchlight project] may actually be the thing we decide we want to do next, because we might be so tired of making Torchlight that we’re kind of burned out. Maybe we want to cleanse the system a little bit before we go back to Torchlight. Because, I mean, we’re gonna go back to the Torchlight franchise, obviously. But we may do something else in-between. That’s on the list of things that sound kind of cool, and we have to evaluate down the line.”

Specifically, Schaefer goes on to cite tablets as a big area of interest, as well as – more broadly – Minecraft. “I’ve played a lot of Minecraft over the last year,” he notes. “I’d love to infuse some sandbox-y mechanics into that style of universe.” However, he also adds that “we have 30 guys in the office. I’m sure we have 30 very distinct opinions on what the coolest next thing could be.”

Torchlight 2 dev wants to avoid paid DLC, pledges free updates
http://www.shacknews.com/article/75859/ ... edges-free
Torchlight 2 is well on its way to becoming a million-seller, according to CEO Max Schaefer, citing the game's "well over a quarter" million pre-orders. Reaching a million sales will make the game instantly profitable, citing a development budget of under $10 million.
Demand for the game, coupled with the rise of digital distribution made it possible for team to price the game at $20--even as it gets favorably compared to the fully-priced Diablo series. That's key to Runic Games' long-term strategy. "In the long run we want to be known as the people who have the best value in gaming," Schaefer said.
He told Kotaku: "We want to build a long-term community. We want to have people that buy our games and stuff for a long long long long time. So it's sort of an investment in the future."
Because of their focus on value, Schaefer promises that all future downloadable content for the game will be free. "Part of our thing is that it's a $20 game, and once you start muddying the waters with paid DLC then it's like, well, it wasn't really $20," he said. "We wanna just avoid that whole thing entirely. We wanna just make it better and better and better."

I've been playing it for the past week and it's a lot of fun, but I know I'll lose interest in another week or so, kind of like the original Torchlight. It's light-hearted fun, but pretty rinse-repeat.

Honestly, I didn't make it through the demo. Zzzzzzzzz.

Good lord. I just realized that if it isn't MineCraft, I can't stand playing it for more than an hour or two. What has that game turned me into?!

mod tool released
http://www.torchlight2game.com/news/2013/04/01/guts/
Torchlight II GUTS

GUTS is our in-house development tool. It lets you modify almost everything about Torchlight II, from item and skill balance, to level layouts, animations, quests, and much more. GUTS mods can be shared with your friends, and multiplayer games using mods can be found in the modded games lobby. In addition, A new launcher lets you customize which mods are currently active.

When playing modded games, you can view your mod history, any previously played mods, and the impact disabling mods may have on your character.

We've also added a special tool to GUTS designed to convert pre-GUTS mods into the official mod format, with an eye toward making the transition much easier for our ambitious early modders.

We've tried to make the process as seamless as possible, with a focus on allowing modded multiplayer games with a minimum of fuss.
Steam Workshop integration with Torchlight II

Torchlight II now fully supports Steam Workshop. Steam Workshop integration allows for automatic mod subscription and synchronization for any mods hosted on the Workshop. When playing Internet games you will be able to filter modded games by mod combination in the lobby, and with a single button click, subscribe to those mods. Torchlight II will then restart, synchronize and activate them before returning you to the game.
GUTS Wiki

New to modding? Here's how to get started with GUTS - the Torchlight II GUTS wiki that we have been working on. You will definitely want to bookmark this resource!
New Content for Everyone

We've been working on lots of new content! Here is a taste of what awaits you ...

The NetherRealm tileset - new NetherRealm dungeons can be found via portals throughout the world
New Monsters
New armor sets
New weapons
New pets - including the Headcrab!
New endgame map content
Additional dungeons can be found throughout the overworld in New Game Plus modes
