I think you have to download Itunes. It's a nifty program that allows you to securely transfer you mp3s onto your Ipod! Though, if you download music and stuff illegitimately and transfer through Itunes... it could flag you. RIAA complaince, HO!!!
Also, why are you supporting those demonic tech-lords? I DEMAND ANSWERS
*edit, reading fail*
Try dragging and dropping the songs into your Itunes window. On the left-hand-side there should be an area that shows your connected device (Ipod). Open it up and drag + drop.

Re: IPOD woes!
Are they .mp3 or .m4a?
If not, that could be your problem.
Additionally, you should be going to the tab for the iPod and then selecting what music you want on it from there; dragging it to the iPod tab from within iTunes generally doesn't work.

Re: IPOD woes!
I think you first have to import everything into iTunes (be sure and check options so that it doesn't COPY every song to .mp4 format and eat up a bunch of HDD space). Then it should be fairly straight forward. You plug ipod into computer, see it in itunes, and move songs between local computer and ipod library.

fallakin, they are a mixture of mp3's and 4's. i've pretty much done everything that has been suggested.

See if any of these line up with the problem you're having and can solve it: http://www.macworld.com/article/1038851/trubipod.html
