Reaching Across the Isle

Everyone bitches about the lack of bipartisanship, but always proceeds to say what they think is right & why. Almost never do they suggesting giving in on anything in order to get something. Are you willing to give in on something the other side wants? If so, what do you want? And what are you willing to exchange for it?

When the GOP wants something that's sane, I'll consider "giving."

You are going to see the GOP give on some level of taxation in exchange for lower defense cuts.

You are going to see the Dems agree because they gain points on getting taxation and they save jobs in their home states by avoiding defense cuts.

No one wants to lose jobs in their home state. So there will be willingness on both sides of the aisle on this issue.

There are certain things that neither side of the aisle are EVER going to agree on, nor would they ever be willing to offer it up no matter what they might get in exchange.

Express your hatred, shame, and outright disgust with anyone you know who voted Democrat

However, for me, I'm choosing another rather unique path; a personal boycott, if you will. Starting early this morning, I am going to un-friend every single individual on Facebook who voted for Obama, or I even suspect may have Democrat leanings. I will do the same in person. All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt.

I strongly urge all other libertarians to do the same. Are you married to someone who voted for Obama, have a girlfriend who voted 'O'. Divorce them. Break up with them without haste. Vow not to attend family functions, Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas for example, if there will be any family members in attendance who are Democrats.

Since the California vote thread made me post I might as well respond to this one.

While I still think the rhetoric is largely socialist about taxing the rich and class warfare I also recognize that compromise has its place. My contention about higher taxes is that there is so much government waste.

With the whole "fiscal cliff" debate I would honest be willing to accept some raised taxes if there were assurances and/or penalties for government waste and the requirement that the senate would vote and pass a budget each fiscal year.

I think the government is too big of a player in the economy I recognize that even if they shrank to the levels I would be comfortable with doing it right away would be disaster for the economy and trigger a recession.

The best way to cut waste is transparency, not forcing cuts.

Otherwise, yes. It has to be a gradual process if you don't want to crash markets.
