Some of those are pretty impressive funding sources for law firms.

Yeesh..

I'm surprised I didn't see "Save the Children" on there. I gave them money for a couple years, then stopped. I think they've spent more money mailing me shit afterwards than I gave them to begin with, despite calls and emails telling them to please stop.

... Almost 20% of them are police related, too. Smells like someone playing on the american tendency to heroify cops.

This is the one that gets me...
Project Cure (Bradenton, FL) $51.5 million $20.4 million 0.0%
Where the hell did the other 30 million go? I only briefly looked at the list, so it might be explained elsewhere, but seriously... 30 million unaccounted for with a charity is a little disturbing.

I've moved away from giving money to charities and primarily volunteer time/services.

The WORST solicitors in these parts are from officer foundations. They call you (even if you are on a no-call list) and pressure the FUCK out of you. "We need this for blah blah, police, save lives, keep people safe, etc etc."

I've just gotten to the point to where I say, "No thank you," and hang up before they can offer a rebuttal because when they start in with the guilt trip bullshit, it only pisses me off.

There are specific charities I give to. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with ALS and put a link up to her page for a walkathon. That kind of thing. Another friend has a son who was in a horrible accident (hit by a drunk driver) and their medical bills are already over 1 million dollars. They put up a fund. I gave to that.

When I had a pet die from cancer a few years back, I researched the best animal cancer research facilities (most reputable) and donated in the pet's name.

I don't just go blanket with "whatever, take my money." I pick and choose as things come along.

I work for a nonprofit right now (part-time) and we LOVE volunteers. Most of our money comes from grants and community funding. We never "fund raise." Our biggest resource is volunteers and people who want to help make a difference.

I just hang up on all cold callers. Don't even bother saying "no". They're getting nothing from me so they may as well get to the next call ASAP.
