Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Post by Minute »

I liked it better than I thought I would. Not blown away, but I figured NBC would ruin it with their overly family-oriented & political correctness that they most often do. Which there was some of that, just not nearly as much as I expected. It's at least worth a few more episodes. They even brought over some of that good Agent Coulson comedy that worked so well in the movies. There's a few weak links, but I have high hopes for it.

Starts this week in the UK. Gonna give it a go as the adverts look promising.

I do like that it looks like it's going to be fairly well tied to the rest of the MCU - It's a seperate world and a seperate story from their mainline comics, and this will be a chance for them to really flesh out the world with some of the stories that we don't have time for in a feature film, as well as put some of the stronger B-listers in the sunlight for an episode - Half expect to see supers like Black Widow, Hawkeye, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Squirrel Girl (Destroyer of All That Breathes!) from time to time. I do want new stories built out of the same basic lego bricks, not a rehash of a comic book from the 70's... I'll be watching to see if they can make it happen.

My biggest worry, actually, is that I don't know if Coulson as written is strong enough as an anchor character for the show - I kind of fear that this is going to end up the Agent Ward & Agent Skye show.

Good observation. I'm with you. Pilot would indicate that he's going to be a central figure but that might just be because it was the pilot. I actually didn't care much for the Ward character. Skye was a little better but that young hot female super hacker has been done to death so I'm hoping they bring something a little fresh. The 2 nerds annoy me, him more than her, but at least the combo works ok. Agent Melanie May is alright too.

At first I thought they were going to take an Alphas approach. Recruiting super powered peeps to work for Shield, but considering the cast lineup that doesn't look to be it. Which makes me sad because I could totally see that working well in the Marvel universe. Shitty to think that licensing is what would stop that. Can't have Spiderman popping up on a TV show because that would cost too much. :(

I think what's going to happen is going to be that they're going to chase this criminal super-villian manufacturing conspiracy, and assorted Avengers related heros are going to pop up every so often, help out for an episode, be 'origined' then disappear until the Agents want their help later.

Agent/ Hacker is new Buffy
Agent good looking is new Angel
Coulson is the new Giles
Inventor Fitz is Zander
Inventor Jerrold is Willow
Agent Oriental is Zoe....From Firefly cause Josh did that show too.
The Doctor is Shepherd...cause he's the same actor.

Ok, that was fun. Anyway, I did like the first show. It's a good base for them taking on HYDRA, and AIM. I hope they do at least some Marvel hero's, and villans also. I'm sure everyone does.

It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that the current agent Coulson is really a LMD (Life Model Decoy). The last episode sealed the deal for me.

The "real" Coulson is obviously unaware and still recovering from the injuries sustained in The Avengers.

Still watching but I have to say... this is really bland. Coulson is like the only thing holding the show together. I'm starting to think my initial fears were correct & that ABC's (most network TV) sissification of shows is killing this. I feel like they are focusing way too much on the cast, who are boring as hell, and not enough on the thing that makes this whole "Marvel" thing work. The Superhero / Spy Agency thing. I am starting to be really disappointed. :(

I couldn't get into this one. Maybe I haven't given it a decent shot.

I agree with Minute. You know we all just want to see Heroes, and Coulson kick ass. There is a little 4 minute featurette on YouTube where he outsmarts, and beats the shit out of two thugs trying to rob a convenience store. It more satisfying then all 3 episodes after the first one.

I am enjoying it. Perhaps I went into it expecting different things. It is after all called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., not Marvel Heroes You Won't See on the Big Screen.

I'm liking it. The last episode (fire guy) was pretty cool. I didn't have huge expectations, though. The husband and I are watching it every week, followed by that show, The Goldmans (a comedy) that is actually super LOL. A nice combination.

It's getting better, imho. The crew seems to be gelling better and feeling more Whedonesque.

IMO the show needs to do a few cameo appearances...CGI the hulk in..perhaps have Tony Starke consult on a mission or something to that effect...

It's nice they built up Fitz's character. 75% of airtime.

But it sucks that They are making the hacker what Scifi Fans call a "Mary Sue". That she is the no one, from no where that becomes the irreplaceable, all knowing, savior. That still is the background character the reader is supposed to identify with. (example: Dr. Who companion). In this episode they gave her the fucking Harry Potter origin. In my minds eye I see Agent Hagred bringing baby hacker to the orphanage after killing her parents.

That 10% of the episode is what will stick with me, like the bile in my throat.

Clearly she is Coulson's daughter!
