Pokemon Go
I live in Canada now, so I don't have this game. Please, my American friends, rub in my face how much fun it is.

Re: Pokemon Go
Level 22, Team Mystic here.
My impression is that the game is sort of fun......if you are OCD and want to spend a lot of time trying to catch Pokémon. The gym battles are sort of stupid as the player has an immense advantage over the AI which the Pokémon placed in the gym by an opposing team use. It's based a lot on Ingress which I played. All of the Gyms and Pokestops are Ingress portal submissions.
I hear the Pokémon company is making over 2 million a day in micro transaction purchases so it is doing well. Only the original Kanto Pokémon are in the game right now so plenty of room for expansion in the future. I have 106 of the 147 Pokémon captured so far.

Re: Pokemon Go
It's a great idea, but lacks even the depth that Ingress had. I get they wanted to ship ASAP, but things that need to be added now are:
* Proper Pokemon battle system (most attacks, etc.). It shouldn't be that hard given Kanto fit in an original Gameboy.
* Ability to battle a friend using 6 on 6 Pokemon, using the real battle system.
* Improve the tracker to actually work.
* Improve the high end curve (from what I hear it gets very hard to level without burying yourself in microtransactions).

Re: Pokemon Go
Level 24 now.
The leveling curve seems to be adding 25k each level now. It was 25k to get from 19 to 20, 50k from 20 to 21, 75k from 21 to 22, 100k from 22 to 23 and 125k from 23 to 24 and now 150k to get to 25.
I have so far not spent any of my own money on the game. I have been getting 100 Coins a night from gym's and have used Google Opinion Rewards to buy some Coins with that money. Mostly I have purchased some Incubators and expansion of Backpack and Pokémon Storage.
I have used a strategy of saving up candy and do a LOT of Evolves at once while popping a Lucky Stone. (I did 58 last night alone.)
The only problem I see with H2H battles is the age of some of the players......mainly small children. If the game had some sort of friend system where you could battle people you know and avoid people you don't, that might be a way around it, but I am not sure Niantic or Nintendo want to risk that.
The game certainly needs to fix the Pokémon tracking system. It also should consider upping the XP rewards for capping the more "rare" Pokémon or scale XP gains based on the CP of the Pokémon captured. They also need to have healing potions drop more frequently from Pokestops as you increase in level. Farming stops just for potions so you can battle is not super fun.
Team coordination is pretty much non-existant in PoGo. This is something I find very frustrating coming from Ingress were we had excellent teams. Frequently I bump gyms up 2 or 3 levels for my "team", with no way to inform anyone.

Re: Pokemon Go
Head to head would absolutely need to be whitelisted if enabled.
I meant to say some sort of trading system would go a long way too, but I could see that being quite difficult to police and balance as well.

Re: Pokemon Go
Trading is going to be in the game......it is only a question of when. Currently there are 4 regional Pokémon that are specific to different parts of the world. So unless you travel, you will not get them without some form of trading system. I imagine two forms......one would be an auction house where people bid with Pokecoins and you either put a fixed price on the Pokémon you put up for auction, or a bidding system like Ebay where you could set a buyout price or just let top bidder win. The other would be direct trades for specific wants where you list your Pokémon for trade specifying the Pokémon you want in trade with what traits you want it to have (attack forms and CP).

Re: Pokemon Go
Not only that: They lowered the radius on how close you have to be to the Pokemon to see them, notice the 'careful not to trespass' notice you'll get when logging in now. They completely removed the tracks from their tracker (hopefully this is to get people to stop bitching about everything always being 3 steps), it essentially still works the same as it has since they broke it tho.
Thankfully PokeRadar still works (its crowdsourced).

Re: Pokemon Go
Speculation is that constantly sending and receiving update tracking information about the location and distance of the Pokémon was causing a LOT of the server related lag problems. That necessitated the removal of the detailed tracking.

Re: Pokemon Go
I think the trespass notice was in response to some guy trying to sue them for inciting people to trespass on his property (which should get thrown out anyway). I haven't noticed the radius changing much, but I probably wouldn't see that sort of thing playing fairly casually.
Still hoping they add some more depth to it, otherwise it's just stamp collecting.

Re: Pokemon Go
3 steps was a rather huge area when I started playing. I live on a peninsula that is 12 sq miles. 3 steps was the entire peninsula plus some.
I think the current range is somewhere around 70 meter radius.

Re: Pokemon Go
From what I could tell looking at the results from Pokeview, it basically came back with whatever the servers felt like returning as the nearest spawns to a particular spot, which probably depended on a bunch of things in the back end around optimisation. The app then took the closest 9 and displayed them. Never did figure out what the steps meant - was too messed up to really sort through.

Re: Pokemon Go
I'm still playing. Level 31 now. Level curve is at 500k per level at this point. I have completed the North American Pokedex which is 142 Pokémon. Only the 5 Legendary, Ditto and the 3 remaining region locked Pokémon are left.
I am hearing rumors of the introduction of new Pokémon at the end of the year. The new Buddy feature was a nice addition but not super useful to me other than getting some of the rare Pokémon candies. No interest in buying the Pokémon Go Plus after watching some YouTube videos on its performance. Its capture rate seems abysmally low.

They made me sad when they stopped it working on my rooted phone, and I couldn't be bothered with the workarounds.
Wife & daughter still going strong on it though.

Still playing and closing in on 100 million XP. Having fun, but a lot of the game is starting to get on my nerves.....which happens to me with all games.

Re: Pokemon Go
Fire it up now and then, but since my commute changed to not involve a lot of walking there's not nearly as much opportunity as I had before. What level is 100 million XP?

Re: Pokemon Go
20 million gets you to level 40 which is the cap currently, so anything beyond that is just in anticipation of a level increase at some point.
