EQ2 Again
Anyone else playing amazed at how many people you meet in-game who never played EQ1?
I figured EQ2 would appeal to the EQ1 fanbase, and WoW would appeal to new MMO players. Seems just about the opposite is true. Heh.

Not terribly surprising to me. There are at least two reasons that come to mind. First, many EQ1 players have no desire to undergo the "Sony experience" again. I have no problems with Sony (quite the opposite I think EQ1 and 2 are both fine games that are reasonably well supported) but it seems a large % of the EQ1 player base falls into the "will never play a Sony MMoRPG again" category. Second, I think many people feel like EQ2 is to similar thematically to EQ1 and if they are going to start over again in a MM world they want to do it in an entirely different setting. For both of these groups of EQ1 players WoW is the natural choice over EQ2.
As much as I enjoy EQ1 if I was going to start a new MMoRPG today I would chose WOW for reason #2. I suspect a large number of EQ1 players feel the same.

i ran into an old EQ friend in WoW yesterday and messed with him.
"Do i know you ?
" uhhh no ?
"Oh i knew someone in EQ with that name"
ahhh Eq, i used to play eq
"With the same name ? ..."
yes ! i mean... no ?
"Ari you fucking dork !"
i can be so mean. I don't want to play EQ2, WoW seems good enough to me, and i can't bring myself to believe that eq2 will be different then eq1, and i simply don have the time to put into eq1 again

Interestingly enough, Sony themselves agree there. I think Moorgard said that if they were to start over again they would have never gone with the "sequel" for that very reason. While in reality there are far more similarities between WoW and EQ2 than either have with EQ1, it's hard to dispel the feel that it's not somewhere different until you actually play the game.Second, I think many people feel like EQ2 is to similar thematically to EQ1 and if they are going to start over again in a MM world they want to do it in an entirely different setting.

At first when I heard about EQ2 coming out as a relatively new EQ1 player I thought (and said) the same thing -- that I wasn't going to start all over again in the same world and lose everything I'd gained.
BUT, I found new copies of EQ2 on Ebay for cheap and bought it anyway and I don't regret it for a second. It's beautiful, amazing even... Just to look at. And then there's the content and the quests and the improvements and those are amazing too.
Compairing it to WoW, which I also play, they both have pros and cons. There are things I love about EQ2 that WoW doesn't have and there are things that I love about WoW that EQ2 can't even begin to touch. They are very different even though there are also similarities.
As far as compairing either of them to EQ1, there's no compairison. EQ1, as a late starter sucked balls. I played a Halfling Paladin. I couldn't solo much if any because I died so easily. It was extremely difficult to find groups. When I did find groups the other members were 50% flakes. Corpse retrieval was so ass it wasn't even funny. The graphics were no where near spectacular. The game loads and unloads so slowly I have to play it with nothing open on a brand new laptop and I can still fall asleep waiting for it to finish.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to let my EQ1 subscription lapse, but I'm definitely not investing further in expansions.

You played a halfing morong, that in and of itself was your problem. Playing a real race would have solved your problem

And, moron, if you would read between the lines -- perhaps looking for content -- before you go about being a complete bitch, you'd have gotten that I have had no problem soloing as a Halfling Paladin in EQ2. See, my implication in pointing out those things was that they were problems I'd had in EQ1 that I hadn't experienced in EQ2. Improvements in the process, if you will.
As far as having played something other than a 'real race', perhaps you should do some research... maybe ask around. I did before I MADE a Halfling Paladin. Paladins are difficult to solo in EQ1. It has nothing to do with race. As a matter of fact, Halflings are particularly GOOD with their wisdom and stamina stats.
Now that I've spelled it out for you, you can go back to attention whoring.
