Seriously, Condi Rice is such an unpopular figure outside of the Bush Administration internationally, due in large part to unwaveringly towing the Bush line, that her nomination is a collosul mistake. Not to disparage Rice as a person, but how can someone of her stiff political make up be considered the right person to represent the US to the world in State affairs. We have lost enough credibility over the last 4 years even with a person I thought well suited to the task in Powell. Now we will have a party hard liner in that position. It just doesn't make sense to me. It seems Bush is thumbing his nose at the world in general in order to try to make brownie points with the women and blacks.

Hell if he wants brownie points from minority groups he should have nominated Jim Kolbe for the spot. Oh ya he hates fags, even republican fags, sorry.

Because I don't presume to read minds. You seem to have this idea that party loyalty trumps all, when in reality, all politics is STILL local. As more and more pressure is applied on the local end, you're starting to see Senators who would have stayed silent speaking up in opposition and others who were strong supporters of the Bush cabinet questioning that handling now. This is why a Lindsey Graham, who is no liberal by any standard, comes out and openly questions an Alberto Gonzales, when your model would indicate that all he would do is suck up and throw softballs.

Of course, history shows that the Senate is generally willing to give the President his nominees. However, in times when such an unqualified candidate is put forward for such an important position, I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Especially one who melts down when confronted with her own statements who's trying to become our top DIPLOMAT.
