Here's the text of the article for those too lazy to click:
The wacky, fun-loving scientists at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have identified a gene which causes cancer. The gene, formally known as POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor -- short name, Pokemon.
The facts about the gene aren't terribly salient here, but the naming is a bit weird. The article on Sloan-Kettering's site never comes out and acknowledges the similarly in naming with a certain immensely popular game series. Despite the highly sensitive nature of the text, some of it does read a bit humorously, however: "They also found that tumors with high levels of Pokemon protein were much more likely to be aggressive."
