WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hours before a feeding tube was to be removed from a brain-damaged Florida woman, U.S. lawmakers on Friday called on the woman to appear before congressional committees in an attempt to keep her alive.
She's gonna look great in front of the cameras, won't she?
And what happens when she doesn't answer any of the hours of questions? Will she be held in contempt?
Sorry you need to take that to the American people and let democracy take care of em. Isn't Hastert from IL? Start a grass roots movement to defeat him next ellection.
The hubris is amazing. It took Democrats 40 years in control of the House to get their worst, and in barely 10 years the Republicans have surpassed them in spades.
With your stance on the death penalty and your support of the murder of Shavio despite all of the doubts and questions about her wishes would be shocking were it coming from another individual.
End the hypocrisy!

Personally I feel she should be allowed to die. There is no hope for recovery......a major part of her brain is now gone due to the lack of oxygen she received during her cardiac arrest.
She's dead already. She's been dead since her heart attack. All that's alive now is the shell that once carried her. Frankly, whatever happens to that shell doesn't impact her - she left this Earth years ago. I just find it a threat to our Constitutional republic that the legislature seeks to override the judicial process.
Not to be crass......but I find the notion of people expressing the desire to keep a feedling tube attached to a woman diagnosed as a bulimiac because it would be her wish.....to be incredibly ironic.

You say that as if murdering invalids is a bad thing.
Although I don't agree with the decision (admittedly a heart-rending one on both sides), Congress should not have involved itself in this particular circumstance. Unless, of course, they were going to modify or pass some national law prohibiting or allowing something like this.
But, I disagree about it taking a couple of weeks to die for her. It will be over in 4-6 days. Food is one thing, water is another. If she is getting all her fluids through the tube, then she'll die of dehydration long before she dies of malnutrition.
Death by dehydration is a very, very bad way to go.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

She's not brain dead. That's why she only needs a feeding tube. She has severe brain damage, and the estimated capacity of a 6-11 month old child. It's not getting worse, but it will never get better, either.
I, personally, am morally opposed to removing the tube. I don't consider simply feeding a patient extraordinary means of keeping them alive.
However, a spouse's wishes supercede those of the parents under the law. There have been more legal opinions written about this case than any other single case.
Congress is wrong to try to preempt 10 years of judicial proceedings at the 11th hour.
