I have a confession to make:

I hate Dr. Who. I always have. I even hated the movies, where the sublimely cool Peter Cushing played him.

I'm also not a fan of Red Dwarf.

How about other British stuff, Bangzoom? Monty Python? Some mothers do 'ave 'em? Are you being served? etc?

Oh, yeah. I was even a huge fan of "The Rise And Fall Of Reginald Perrin," let alone "The Young Ones." Hell, I loved "The Goodies." "Mr. Bean" is in my comedy pantheon, and "Fawlty Towers" was godlike. Pythons goes without saying, and the original "Bedazzled" is the remake I should have had the Peter Cook role in. (With Mitch Hedberg as the Dudley Moore character. Perfect, for those who've seen us both.)

Just Dr. Who never turned my crank.

Bangzoom's clearly insane raving aside, the new Dr. Who has potential. It's definitely a large departure from the original series, but it has much of the same elements - the eccentric Doctor, the cute female companion, the TARDIS shaped like an old police box (and its distinctive whirr as it vanishes, though its light is a much brighter blue as it dematerializes).

The production values are substantially higher, too. (Pretty much on par with your average Buffy episode.) The first episode (not one piece of a four-parter, but a complete start-to-finish episode) as leaked was about 45 minutes and had the original Pertwee/Baker theme music so I assume the "new" theme hadn't been completed yet.

The plot was essentially a revisit of the Autons/Nestene plotline from the first few episodes of Jon Pertwee's episodes, and done kinda neatly.

Still, it definitely has a new flavor to it, and I'm not entirely sure if it's going to fly. But it was cool enough for me to want to see more.

I was first introduced to Dr. Who during Tom Baker's reign as doctor. One of my friends from Australia was a Pertwee fan so we had the never ending discussions about which doctor was best......whether Pertwee could kick Bakers ass using Venusian Karate, etc.

I think bringing back the show is awesome. Need more good Sci Fi.
