Wireless Router

Post by Taxious »

I am looking into buying a wireless router for a small house a few friends and I are getting for next year. I have checked out a few places like ebay, soundtrack, newegg.com, our college tech store and was just wondering what I should be looking for?

Is B or G better? Can they interact with eachother? If I have a G router and a B card, will it work? On a lot of the linksys routers I'm finding that they only work with windows... is it possible to get it to work with linux also?

On ebay, there were two auctions to the exact same router, but one was going for 50 dollars more, and I can't seem to find the difference between the two.

G is faster that B It connects at 54mbs and a B connects at 10mbs.
B and G do work togeather but if you have a B card you will only have a 10mbs connection wich is still faster than you Internet connection.
The 10 d0llar router is a B router. Tthey are pretty cheap these days. The other router is 60 bucks and I would pay that for a used router.

Both the 10 dollar and the 60+ one are B routers, I see no difference why is there such a darastic price difference?

Both links are the exact same router. The price difference is caused by internet idiocy.

I got a D-Link 108Mbps wireless router last month and love it. :)

Is 108Mbps really neccisary though? Seems like overkill.

TV shows on my Tivo are 1-2 gigs. I want them on my laptop. No, 108mbps is not overkill.

Have my eye on a cheap wireless B router on ebay right now. (I guess I'm more concerned about price than anything else)

What about the adapter? Is there any real big difference that I'm missing between the pci and usb adapters besides size and convenience?

USB will work on a computer that doesn't have PCI slots. Like if you get a notebook or something. It'll also work on a PS2 or TiVo, etc.
