Interesting read. Really reminds me how much I'm underpaid however. I'm makin gmaybe 65-70% of what I should (as an average for that job type), but since I'm still a young 24, they obviously don't wanna pay me what i'm worth now... gotta make me work for the raises to get paid what I'm worth eventually.

Hail, an entitlement whore!
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

I don't know if I would call myself an entitlement whore. I feel as though I am entitled to get paid what my coworkers do, when I do as much or more than they do to advance the overall business. (i.e. I know people I work with get paid in accordance with national averages)
If that's being an entitlement whore.. then yes sir...yes i am.... and yes bahd I have kinda come to terms with that...and have planned for it.

Bahd is correct, and it may take you a few bounces, but I recommend it. I keep my resume constantly updated and circulating. I've changed jobs 4 times in the last 7 years with a minimum of 10k increase per change. This also has been really good way to broaden your field coverage. Every one of the companies I've worked for has sent me through new training, which of course makes you more valuable. I don't know if you're married w/ children or not, but if not and you have the ability to move to accomidate new occupation than you could make some seriously large changes in your financial stability. Just make sure you calculate the environment. Making 15K more per year when moving from BFE where cost of living is zilch to L.A. isn't going to make you anything but poor.

I know the feeling. I'm 25 now, but I've been working in IT for 8 years. I could easily go make more money at another company, but I'd rather work for a small company where my job duties aren't as restricted. It's nice having your hand in everything, so that you don't stagnate or lose interest in your job.Grygonos wrote: I'm makin gmaybe 65-70% of what I should (as an average for that job type), but since I'm still a young 24, they obviously don't wanna pay me what i'm worth now

Same situation here, and I mostly agree with Barious. It's been hard to fit into search engine recruitment though: How many dedicated years of language X have you done?
