I was expecting a total bastardization but it wasn't that bad, really. They kept most of the offbeat humor of the books intact, and all the Hitchhikers Guide entries were fairly accurate. Except the one about the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Marvin was done brilliantly by Alan Rickman.
I admit I laughed quite a bit. And the POV gun was a good addition.

I recall reading that the original entry to the Hitchhikers Guide referred to the experience of drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster was the alcoholic equivalent to being mugged. The movie's explaination was much more easy to relate. I kind of liked the original interpretive description.

Book said the effects of drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster are supposed to be like having your brain smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick, or something very similar.
