I'm sorry, but what the hell were the parents doing "visiting with neighbors" at midnight and leaving the 7 year old alone with the baby?

If I had to take a guess, this is going to turn out to be a seriously fucked up family situation.

Should he get the death penalty?
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

No, but definitely institutionalized. The father should be facing some sort of criminal charge.

I doubt this is the one and only time the child has committed a violent act and a 7 year old has no business being alone with a baby, let alone one with aggression issues.

Let's not forget it was midnight.....and the boy knew where his father was. They should have both been in bed sleetping. If the baby was crying the boy could have simply went outside and got his father. Instead he beat the baby with his fists and feet and a 2x4.

Why doesn't he deserve the death penalty, Harlowe?

I honestly don't know what to do with aberations. I don't think this child will ever lead a "normal" life and will probably end up incarcerated for most of his natural life.

I truely believe that some people are just born violent. They are hardwired anti-social abberations and they need to be dealt with in some way.

Why don't you dispense with the sillyness and make your point. We all know you're against the death penalty as are many on this board including me. That is annoying.

Why don't you answer the question? If you are for the death penalty, why doesn't this child deserve death?

Embar, where have I been in support of the death penalty?

Whether I think some people deserve death or not, I certainly can't be for it, considering our legal system.

Morally, I do agree it's barbaric.

The question was more directed at Jecks, than you Harlowe.

I generally do not get to "PWN" people........so allow me to savor the moment.

........................................................................

There. Ok.

You asked....

Why doesn't he deserve the death penalty, Harlowe?
Then you said......
Why don't you answer the question? If you are for the death penalty, why doesn't this child deserve death?
But I had already said.....
We all know you're against the death penalty as are many on this board including me
Which would mean I am against the death penalty you boob.

So why would you say.....
The question was more directed at Jecks, than you Harlowe.
when you clearly had already posed the question directly to Harlowe and I had already said I am anti death penalty?

Ack.

My bad Jecks. I missed the part about you being against the death penalty. For some reason, I thought you were in favor of it.

What I'm trying to get at, and the pro-death penalty people are avoiding, is why the kid shouldn't get the death penalty. Not won't get the death penalty (he won't because he's too young, and current law forbids execution of minors), but shouldn't.

They could argue mental capacity, but we've put to death people that have less cognitive ability than a seven year old. They could argue age, but that, too , has been a floating standard.

It was my attempt to get a pro-death penalty supporter to engage in a debate of the criteria used to determine whether or not an individual receives death.

I am for the death penalty. So I will answer it. The question has to be tempered by the competency of the person. I don't necessarily feel that a child of 7 has the competence to fully understand what they have done.
